Post Cleanse Guide
The days immediately following a juice cleanse are sometimes the most difficult, yet most important part of the cleansing experience. After 14 days on CABALA Juice it is highly likely that your body is craving variety and the sensation of solid food.
Eating will be a brand new experience after the Juice Cleanse. Expect the flavors and textures of food to be enhanced by exceptionally clean nasal passages. It’s best for you to reintroduce whole foods gradually because your digestive tract has been at rest. Pancreatic enzymes and hydrochloric acid may not be present right away to help you digest proteins, starches and fats. To introduce ‘clogging’ foods such as meat, bread or junk food directly after a juice cleanse could be disastrous as your digestive system is in a sensitive state. This may cause stomach cramps, nausea and weakness, taking away much of the benefits you have received after completing the Juice Cleanse.
It’s important to note that you should eat slowly and chew your food exceptionally well because saliva has enzymes that assist in digestion. Up to 80 percent of the starch, 30 percent of the protein and 10 percent of the fat can be digested by the enzymes in saliva.
The amount of food you eat after the cleanse is likely to be vastly different to the quantity of food you were consuming before the Juice Cleanse. You will be surprised and delighted that your body needs a lot less food than you think. My suggestion is to eat only half as much as you normally would at any one time, but eat twice as often. These smaller portions taken more frequently throughout the day help speed up your metabolism and will not overburden your digestive system. Try and continue to have at least two glasses of CABALA Juice or another favorite fresh fruit/vegetable juice a day.
Eating small amounts of raw fruit and vegetables for the first four or six days will allow your body to gently wakeup the digestive system. The body will continue to detoxify and cleanse during this period. Toxins that have accumulated will begin to move due to the sweeping action of the soft fibers of fruits and vegetables.
I have put together an eating guide for the four days following the ‘14 Day Juice Cleanse Challenge’, which will help your body smoothly transition into eating whole foods again.
DAY 1
Fresh fruits are the best way to wake up your digestive system because they have a very high water content and require the least amount of energy for your body to break down and digest. Apples, melons, grapes, pears, plums and berries are ideal and can be consumed as often as every two to three hours.
Include:
- Fresh fruit (I encourage you stay away from pineapple and papaya on Day 1 as they contain strong enzymes that may upset your stomach)
- Fresh fruit/vegetable juice (including CABALA)
- Green smoothies. There is an excellent initiative called the Green Smoothie Challenge. I strongly recommend you have a look at: http://greensmoothiechallenge.com
DAY 2
In the morning continue eating fruit, fresh fruit/vegetable juice or green smoothie.
For lunch and dinner, have a bowl of fresh vegetable soup or green salad.
Snack ideas:
- Fresh fruit (don’t forget avocado is a fruit)
- Fresh fruit/vegetable juice
- Sacred Meal

DAY 3
In the morning, continue eating fruit, fresh fruit/vegetable juice or green smoothie. For lunch and dinner, have vegetable soup or a green salad with baked potato or a slice of whole grain sprouted bread.
Snack ideas:
- Fresh fruit
- Fresh fruit/vegetable juice
- Sacred Meal
DAY 4
In the morning, continue eating fruit or fresh fruit/vegetable juice or green smoothie. For lunch and dinner, you may introduce a small amounts of nuts, legumes, free range animal products such as chicken, turkey, fish, egg or cheese.
Continue to snack on fresh fruit, fresh fruit/vegetable juice and or Sacred Meal.
I personally don’t consume animal products for a myriad of reasons (which I wont venture into for the purpose of this post), however I am pragmatic enough to acknowledge that a vegetarian lifestyle does not appeal to everyone. If you do eat animal products, I strongly encourage you to do 3 to 7 days of juice cleansing every 2 to 3 months, as animals products tend to create the most chaos and toxicity in the body.
Given that everyBODY is different the most important ingredient post cleanse is to employ the art of listening to your body because it is wiser than you think!! How does the food feel inside your body? Does it feel cleansing, alive and nourishing or does it make you feel clogged and lifeless? How does the food effect your energy levels 15 to 30 minutes after consumption?
Also, you will notice that I have not included quantities in the Post-Cleanse Eating Guide. This is because, once again, everyBODY is different! Nutritional requirements vary depending on your age, height, gender, level of physical activity, health challenges etc. Experience as a dietitian has also taught me that an eating plan based on whole food doesn’t require a quantity or calorie prescription. This is best summed up by the follow excerpt from Don Tolman’s Farmacist Desk Reference (page 305).

“The most valid way of becoming more whole, fully integrated human begins is to offer to our temples whole, fresh plant foods, joined by periods of fasting. Energy-intact food, mindfully washed and prepared in an attitude of exuberant thankfullness upon an empty, hungry stomach, is more than the unit of heat released upon oxidation by the body required to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water by one degree centigrade at one atmosphere of pressure called a calorie”.
“The real study of food requires eating it, savoring it, and being extremely aware of how it makes you feel. As you become more curious and aware of the foods you eat your own intuition, sensory organs, common sense and hopefully signatures will lead you to offering and sacraments that are ever more and more pleasing and pleasurable to you. You may flip-flop in what you find pleasing now as opposed to what you may be deliriously pleasing tomorrow, next week, next month, next year and beyond. More and more people are enjoying an abundance of food but are left feeling hungry, a deep hunger for greater experiences in our “inner” higher selves. We hunger for more meaningful lives, careers, relationships, and actualization of ourselves”. Don Tolman
Your body is a temple and should be treated with the utmost respect as it is priceless and you can’t place a price tag on your health. If you are tempted to eat or drink something that has no nutritional value or benefit to your health, be mindful and think about the long term effect that it’s having on your body. Depending on the toxicity levels in your body, you may want to consider periodically doing a Juice Cleanse every two or three months, for three to seven days, to cleanse and revitalize your body.
