Salt Water Flush
EveryBODY is different but it’s normal for the bowel movements to slow down on day 2-3 of the cleanse. This is because you’re not putting any roughage / bulk / clogging foods into your digestive track. Check out the volume & weight of the fibre that come out of the juicing machine. This would usually go into your body! No wonder why we feeling sluggish and ‘weighed down’ after eating!!!
Since the bowels are not working with regularity during the juice cleanse, the importance of going for a daily 30-40 minute walk becomes paramount. The action of walking stimulates the peristaltic action of the digestive system. Peristalsis is the involuntary smooth muscle contractions that propels food distally through the esophagus and intestines.
Colonic and/or enemas during the juice cleanses are also highly recommended, to assist in the removal of toxins from the bowels.
Krishna and I did salt water flushes every second day as an alternative to colonics or enemas. In my opinion salt water flushes are just as effective and more tolerable than enemas and colonics.
Salt Water Flush Instructions:
- It’s best to do the salt water flush in the morning, as soon as you wake up and before having any juice. Choose a day when you don’t have work, or don’t have to go anywhere for a good 1-2 hours.
- Dissolve 4 teaspoons of Celtic or Himalyian salt into 2 litres of filtered water. However, if you’re doing this for the 1st time, I strongly suggest you start with half this amount (2 teaspoons of salt in 1 litre of filtered water) as the effects can rather explosive, if you catch my drift
- Drink all of the 2 litres quicky (within 15 minutes).
- Lay down on your left side for up to 20 minutes, to assist the movement of water into the transverse colon, longest and most movable part of the colon.
- After 15 minutes to 1 hour, you will release the water out your bottom and have diarrhea. If you don’t have diarrhea after 2 hours, you did not use enough salt. So next time, please put more!
Drinking 2 litres of extremely salty water can be very difficult the first time, but in subsequent tries, it gets easier. Just hang in there!
The salted water is not absorbed by your digestive system at all, this has to do with gravity. The enormous amount of salt practically “pushes” the water through your entire body.
